Mixed Metals

I think the first official fashion rule that was thrust my way was on the bus home from school in 6th grade. "Never wear gold and silver jewelry together again... it's an eyesore," said an older girl, who was eyeing my gold stud earrings and silver pendant necklace.

Granted, I probably looked like a 12-year-old mess. Recently, though, I've been really into wearing mixed metals. Perhaps it's a result of my 12-year-old ego screaming in my head to rebel, but regardless, it can look pretty sick (if worn the right way.) Pewter, silver, brass, gold... you just have to jumble them with intention.

I've been bookmarking some of my favorite mixed metal jewelry pieces and wanted to share them:

If you don't want to invest in a new piece, you can always mix and match jewelry from your own collection. I'm currently wearing a gold chain bracelet given to me by my grandma with a thick silver bangle - it's really easy to make your own look.

It's not magic, but it sure is an illusion...

I remember scuffling through Neiman Marcus as a 6-year-old, shopping with my mom for a dress for her to wear for a black-tie benefit. She settled on a short, skin-tight, black dress with illusion cutouts. I always dreamed of borrowing the dress for a night out, and it finally fits me... just in time for the revival of the mesh 90's illusion trend. At Facade, we find this trend irresistible. Every batch of clothing we get in includes at least one bodycon illusion dress. Bottomline: it's sexy.

We've pulled a few looks from the runway (Alexander Wang is obviously a favorite) and the Facade closet to give you a little inspiration --

But don't leave it to the runway...

Do I need to explain further?

April Showers Bring May Flowers

The rain has lifted, the clouds have parted, and my favorite season has arrived: spring! Here at Facade Vintage, we've been styling with florals for awhile. But spring has a new take on what floral means -- prints are bolder and brighter than in the past. Some designers have even likened their prints to wallpaper:

Badgley Mischka

Obedient Sons and Daughters

Fendi

We've acquired several pieces that might pique your interest:

80's Floral Romper

Between the Berkeley hippie moms wearing crocs and the UC Berkeley students adorning Cal sweatshirts, you'll find me hitting the streets of the East Bay in my bright floral romper.
